U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning to Iran, saying the United States will either secure a diplomatic agreement with Tehran or “finish the job,” while insisting that Washington has the military capability to cripple Iran’s critical infrastructure if negotiations fail.
Speaking during a public appearance on Monday, Trump emphasized that his administration still prefers diplomacy over military conflict. However, he asserted that the United States possesses the capability to destroy Iran’s key energy and power facilities within hours if required.
According to Trump, “We’re either going to make a deal, or we’re going to finish the job,” reiterating that a negotiated settlement remains his preferred outcome.
Trump Says Diplomacy Remains the First Choice
Despite his strong remarks, Trump stressed that military action is not his preferred option. He said he wants to avoid further hardship for Iran’s population, estimated at more than 90 million people.
The U.S. President claimed that American forces could disable Iran’s bridges, electricity grid, and major power generation facilities in a matter of hours. He argued that the United States has overwhelming military capabilities but hopes those measures will never be necessary if diplomacy succeeds.
Trump also claimed Iran’s financial position has weakened significantly compared to previous years, suggesting this could influence future negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Comments Come Amid Ongoing Peace Talks
Trump’s latest remarks come as diplomatic efforts continue to find a long-term solution to tensions between the United States and Iran following months of military confrontation.
The comments follow an earlier interview in which Trump claimed the United States had the capability to eliminate Iran’s remaining leadership “in one shot,” but chose not to do so in order to preserve diplomatic negotiations.
His administration continues to signal that while military strength remains an option, diplomatic engagement is still the preferred path toward regional stability.
Iran Condemns Trump’s Remarks
Iran strongly criticized Trump’s latest comments.
In a statement shared on social media, the Iranian Embassy in Armenia accused the United States of failing to understand the significance of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to the Iranian people.
The embassy stated that while individuals may die, their ideals endure, adding that Khamenei’s legacy continues despite his death earlier this year.
Funeral Procession Continues
Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that the body of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has been transported by helicopter to Qom, where additional funeral ceremonies are scheduled.
According to official reports, the funeral procession will continue in Qom before moving to the Iraqi holy cities of Najaf and Karbala, where further religious ceremonies are expected to take place.
The developments come as the international community closely watches diplomatic negotiations and regional security amid continued uncertainty across West Asia.
